Artist date & self care

Artist date

Every week I go out on at least two artist dates, a date with myself, it’s inspired by a book by Julia Cameron, called the artist way, many times I’d  heard this book mentioned by my friend Janey and years later I finally read it.

Julia suggests that every morning you do morning pages, basically journalling and writing about whatever you like, three pages which I do, but also to go on a date for yourself every week.

She has a great workbook too, I love to take it with me and sit on my own in nature, with the birds singing & sounds of nature with a flask of mint tea and fresh mint and posh gluten-free brownie.

On the way I have a weekly date with my mum on the phone and I cycle with headphones on on the path and then share the gardens on FaceTime, the wonders of technology, and sit together in the garden, chat and pick positive affirmation and angel cards together.

Then it’s my time. I give a lot in my teaching and work and family and to my son and I need time to replenish and recharge just for me and to be and enjoy. (Been a lot of burnout & chronic fatigue in my life & still have to watch the energy levels)

I’m mindful & enjoy each mouthful of brownie, sips of tea and each sound of the bird song or waterfall and each colour of each beautiful flower, plant or tree, I go all year round in the rain and sunshine. I’m grateful for these quiet moments to be quiet and not have a to do lists in sight!! Get to express myself on paper and feel supported by the whole thing. It’s an integral part of my dream lifestyle now.

Do you take time for you to enjoy? And I don’t mean at home when you can be distracted by other people or in the bathroom this is not the same thing. Do you go somewhere just for you to recharge?
